Directions to the New England Poling championships:

Coming North on I-95 toward Bangor, get off on Exit 184 onto Ohio St. Turn Right on Ohio St. then take first left on 14th St. Follow 14th St. then take sharp left on Valley Ave. You will cross the river right away and proceed up stream on Valley Ave. You will go under I - 95 then continue for another 1/4 mile or so to a small public park on the left (next to river). This is the location.

National Poling championships event details:

Race Site Location: Hillgate Park in Huntington on Rt. 112 across from the Huntington Shops. Access the river down the fisherman's path.

Parking: On the grass, park perpendicular so we can stack cars up.

Directions from Westfield: Mass Pike (I90) exit 3. Bear right at the exit (Wendy's on the right, Friendlies straight ahead) and head south on Rt 10-202 into Westfield. After crossing the Westfield River on the big green bridge, turn right on Rt. 20 and head West towards Huntington. Rt. 20 will follow the Westfield River the entire way. In Huntington, turn right on Rt. 112 and cross another green bridge. A half mile up Rt. 112, Hillgate Park will be on the right. This is a small triangular piece of grass so don't look for anything larger. The park will be on your right just before you start to see the river again.

Alternate Location (update 5/24): In case of high water, the race location may need to be relocated. If so, the alternate site is near the green bridge on Rt 112 near the junction of Route 20. Parking behind the town offices on Main Street in Huntington.

Friday, May 24: Practice on the river, polers dinner gathering at 5:00pm at the Rapids Restaurant, three miles upstream on Rt. 112 on the left, just after the intersection of Rt. 66 on the right.

Saturday, May 25: 9:00am Registration, 10:00am Competition begins
Event Order: We will run all the races on Saturday. Open WW, Inter WW, Masters WW, Women's WW; Open Slalom, Inter Slalom, Masters Slalom, Women's Slalom

Toilet Facility: There will be a port-a-toilet on site.

Hotel: Holiday Inn Express across from the Mass Pike exit 3 interchange. This will be 25 minutes from the race site. Address is 39 Southampton Road, Westfield. 413.564.6900.

Camping: There are several campgrounds in the general area but nothing real close to the site. Try Sodom Mountain Campground at 413.569.3930 or Windy Acres Family Campground at 413.527.9862. Windy Acres will be the closest off Rt. 66 from the race site about five miles from Rt. 112 and the Rapids Restaurant. It is best to Google for camp sites to determine what will meet individual needs.

Race Director: Harry Rock, work 413.748.3914; office 413.568.9926
